New dog, New job, New year!
Wow has it really been 6 months?! You are probably wondering where I have been. Not only did I adopt a new furry best friend (that has taken up a lot of my time!) but I also have added another job to my resume: I am now the Placement Director at Starling Agency.
How did this happen? By putting myself out into the universe through the world wide web. I started Kikicares a year ago because I wanted to shake things up. I was wanting a shift in my career- just not sure what that was. I knew I had ideas and thoughts on being a nanny in my head that I wanted to get out to to my fellow nannies. I never thought in a million years I would start a blog, but it turns out I loved it. Giving my readers advice on my experiences with childcare has been so gratifying. And what’s even better is when I get emails and comments from you on your ideas! The nanny world is incredibly supportive. We don’t have staff parties, work parties, or any types of check in meetings. Being able to connect with each other and sharing ideas is all making us better nannies in the end.
So after months of blogging away and sharing recipes, art projects, and toddler gifts ideas I got an email from a gal named Mandie from Starling Agency. She was interested in using some of my tote bags I created for a giveaway for her agency. A nanny agency? Hmm. I was curious. I have always gotten my jobs through word of mouth and had no experience with an agency. I immediately looked up Starling and loved the feel of the website. I loved the idea of a boutique small nanny agency that goes through high efforts to find the best possible nanny for a family.
Mandie and I decided to get coffee and just chit chat and the rest was history. I don’t think she even went into that meeting thinking she wanted to hire someone for her team but I remember just blurting out, “I want to work for you.” Not only did I respect Mandie as a business owner, but I felt like we had the same values and goals of childcare. See, Mandie and I both started out as teachers that switched jobs to being nannies. Nannies just aren’t babysitters; they are early childhood educators. And being a nanny had positively affected our lives so much that we wanted to help others find their perfect job.
I am thankful every day that Mandie trusted me to be her Placement Director. She took a leap of faith on someone that does not come from a business background (at all!) but on someone that loves children and felt passionate about giving parents GOOD childcare. And wanting every nanny to have the same experience I have had with loving families.
I have changed my nanny career to only work 3 days a week and focusing on being the best Placement Director I can be for Starling Agency. I have the found the perfect balance of still getting face time with children and also helping nannies find their dream jobs.
So cheers to 2017 and starting new chapters in your life! Stay tuned for more nanny blog posts to come. To learn more about Starling Agency please visit starlingagency.com
In conclusion: Mandie IS pretty great!
