Starling Agency is a boutique nanny agency, dedicated to the success of our family and nanny connections. Our agency is run by two local childcare and education specialists, and supported by a team of mom-owned and operated industry professionals. Our directors personally seek out professional nannies with backgrounds in education and child development. We utilize proprietary resources, professional networks, and expert screening methods, to help your family hire an exceptional nanny. We take pride in our personal approach and attention to detail. As educators, childcare experts, and parents we are dedicated to helping your family find exceptional childcare support that will foster the best for our community.
Starling Agency focuses on integrity and attention to detail when helping your family hire a nanny. Starling Agency has also been recognized as a leader in the nanny industry by Red Tricycle, ParentMap, and Nanny Magazine. The majority of our clients are recommended by word-of-mouth, which is a testament to our successful placements. We do not compensate for reviews, testimonials, or social media mentions.

How Does Starling Agency’s Background Screening Compare to Other Services?
We utilize a professional Seattle-based, mom-operated, and state licensed private investigative agency, which focuses on detailed childcare screening. Unlike online data generators which are limited in scope due to privacy laws, our PI’s license grants access to current federal, state, and local resources. We take the utmost care by investigating candidates through numerous databases, both digital and physical, using all known names and places of residences to verify identity and history. In addition to our nanny background reports, Starling thoroughly interviews references, and reviews each candidates online presence. We make certain that each candidate’s character is verified thoroughly. As members of the same neighborhood, we want to ensure the security of our community.
Why Choose Starling Agency Instead of the DIY Approach?
We understand that with patience and a lot of luck you may be able to find the right fit for your family. However, there are several reasons DIY resources aren’t ideal. For example, you may find sifting through the myriad of unqualified, unverified, and unresponsive applicants, extremely time-consuming and frustrating. Starling Agency can help eliminate this problem by referring you to a small pool of highly-qualified nannies, custom fit for your unique job description. With years in the Seattle nanny industry, access to a private network of nannies, and the security of a professional nanny background screening, we are happy to offer your family the most convenient and secure hiring experience possible.
What Types of Positions Do You Place?
Whether you are looking for a long-term nanny, summer nanny, or postpartum care, Starling can help. We place full/part-time nannies, temporary nannies, vacation nannies, newborn care specialists, doulas, personal assistants, tutors, and homeschool teachers. We do not place live-in nannies.
What Areas Do You Cover?
We specialize in placing nannies in Seattle and the Eastside.
How Long Does It take to Find a Nanny?
We ask that you allow 2-6 weeks to find the right nanny for your family. This time frame allows us to review your family’s needs, reach out to our network, conduct interviews, contact references, and run a detailed nanny background report. If you have a need to hire under two weeks time, services may carry an additional “Urgency Fee.”
How Do You Find Your Nannies?
Starling Agency is extremely proud to have access to a wide network of quality local childcare professionals. Our relationship with families, nannies, and educators is the foundation of our practice. The primary source of our candidates and clients has been through personal connections. In addition, our website, various networking forums, and continued word-of-mouth recommendations, allow us to broaden our resources, and provide you with Seattle’s strongest nanny candidates tailored to your specific family needs.
Do You Offer a Placement Guarantee?
Yes. Our Placement Service offers a 180-day guarantee policy in the event that you aren’t happy, for any reason, with a nanny referred by Starling Agency. If this happens, we’ll re-evaluate your needs and find you one replacement. It’s an unlikely situation, but we offer this guarantee to make sure your family is supported in the event that a nanny doesn’t meet your needs.
I Need a Long-Term Childcare Commitment, Can Your Nanny Agency Help?
Absolutely. All full/part-time nanny candidates referred through us are willing to make a long-term commitment. It’s so important to keep the family’s support system as consistent as possible, for as long as possible, therefore we refer nannies that are willing to make a commitment that matches with your family’s ideal timeline. Additionally, your family is not required to continue the employment of the nanny in the event you no longer need their services.
What Does Starling Agency Charge for a Nanny Placement?
A fee is paid to Starling Agency to cover the costs of your nanny search. The placement fee is equal to a percentage of your nanny’s gross annual salary. For more information click here.
I’m Managing My Own Nanny Search But Need Extra Help. Can Starling Agency Support Us?
Absolutely. As an alternative to our Placement Service, we offer a screening option to assist with your independent nanny search. Our Screening Service is very popular with families that would like to handle the majority of their nanny search, with the addition of professional support to ensure they are making an informed and lawful hiring decision.
What Is the Usual Hourly Rate for a Nanny?
This rate is contingent on the responsibilities you want your nanny to have, the number of children requiring care, and a nanny’s experience. Generally, a nanny’s hourly rate can vary from $15 to $30 per hour. Starling Agency is a reliable consultant, capable of suggesting a rate based on nanny experience and your family’s unique needs.
Should I Provide Benefits for My Nanny?
In order to maintain highly-qualified childcare, each family may consider a benefits package for their nanny. Generally, most full-time nannies receive 10 days paid vacation per year, paid major holidays, 3 paid sick-days, and mileage reimbursement. This is negotiated solely between you and your nanny.
What About Nanny Taxes and Social Security?
A nanny is recognized by the IRS as a household employee. Your nanny is not an independent contractor. We recommend all families comply with the IRS regulations regarding household employee tax and social security deductions. We are proud to be able to recommend an outstanding local, mom-operated, nanny payroll and tax service to help you.
Does My Nanny Need to Have CPR/First Aid Training?
It is vital, in the event of an emergency, that you and your nanny be able to perform CPR, AED, and First Aid. We seek nanny candidates that have Adult/Child/Infant CPR & First Aid training. If a nanny candidate has out-of-date certification, or is not certified, they must agree to acquire training before being referred by our agency. For more information regarding training courses, please visit CPR Seattle, or call CPR Seattle at: (206) 504-3280.
What Are Your Hours of Operation?
As a busy family, we understand your time is limited. For this reason, we are flexible and able to be reached at your convenience. Please email to arrange the best possible time to speak.
